We came in not really knowing where to start. My father had passed away and there were three of us children unsure about what the estate actually involved. The position assessment gave us a clear picture — who was entitled to what, what process we were looking at, and roughly how long it would take. It was more useful than I expected. The written summary was something we kept coming back to.

I was the named executor for my aunt's estate and had no real idea what that involved practically. Maha Advocates walked me through each step — what documents were needed, which offices to approach in what order, what to expect at each stage. The process took about three months in the end, which they had told me to expect from the start. I would have made quite a few mistakes without that guidance.

The situation with my mother's estate became complicated because one of my siblings disagreed with how the Will had been interpreted. It was a difficult few months. What I valued most about Maha Advocates was that they were calm and straightforward throughout — they told me what the likely outcomes were, they kept me updated, and they did not make things feel more adversarial than they needed to be. The matter was resolved in about five months.

I used the position assessment service before deciding what to do about my father's land. The lawyer I spoke with was patient with my questions and did not make me feel as though I was taking up time. I came away understanding my legal position clearly for the first time. I have since referred two other family members here.

Handling an estate as executor while grieving is hard. The practical side of it — the documents, the appointments, the Land Department — felt overwhelming when I started. The guidance service took most of that weight off. I still had to attend appointments, but I knew what I was doing when I arrived, which made a real difference. Four months from start to completion.

My situation involved formal proceedings, which I had been anxious about. What Maha Advocates did well was explain the process in a way that felt less intimidating. They were straightforward about what the likely outcomes were, and they kept the focus on a resolution that worked — rather than prolonging things unnecessarily. That approach is not something I had encountered before with other legal firms.

Case Studies

Anonymised accounts of the kinds of situations we handle — what the challenge was, how we approached it, and what the outcome looked like.

Case Study 01 · Inheritance Position Assessment

Understanding entitlements across two marriages

The Challenge

A client contacted us after the death of a parent who had been married twice. Children from both marriages were involved, and it was unclear how the estate would be divided — particularly since some assets had been acquired during the first marriage and others during the second.

How We Helped

We reviewed the available documents, including the marriage and death records, and mapped the estate under the relevant provisions of the Civil and Commercial Code. Each heir's position was explained clearly, along with what the likely administration process would involve.

The Outcome

The client received a written summary of each heir's position within 10 days. The clarity it provided allowed the family to begin the administration process in agreement, without the need for further dispute. The assessment took 10 days from initial consultation to written delivery.

"We had all been making assumptions about our positions. Having them written out clearly was — I think — what stopped the situation from becoming contentious."

Case Study 02 · Executor Guidance

Estate administration involving land title transfers

The Challenge

An executor named in a Will needed to transfer two parcels of land and close financial accounts, while also managing a minor inheritance tax issue. The executor had no prior experience with Thai estate administration and was concerned about making procedural errors that might delay the process.

How We Helped

We prepared the court application for executor appointment, coordinated the required documentation for the Land Department transfers, liaised directly with the relevant financial institutions, and prepared the response to the revenue inquiry. The executor was present at key appointments but arrived prepared for each one.

The Outcome

The estate was fully administered and assets transferred within approximately 14 weeks. No procedural errors occurred. The executor described the experience as significantly less stressful than anticipated. Total engagement: 14 weeks.

Case Study 03 · Estate Proceedings

Contested estate involving a disputed Will

The Challenge

One heir was challenging the validity of a Will on the grounds that the deceased lacked capacity at the time of signing. Two other heirs wished to uphold the Will. The relationship between the parties was strained, and the client wanted representation that would pursue their position firmly but without unnecessarily worsening the family dynamic.

How We Helped

We assessed the legal strength of the challenge, prepared the evidentiary documentation, and represented the client through the court proceedings. At each stage, we provided honest assessments of how the matter was developing, and we explored whether a negotiated resolution was possible before each significant court appearance.

The Outcome

The Will was upheld. The proceeding concluded at six months. The relationship between the parties, while changed, remained functional — which the client had identified as a priority from the start. A written summary of the outcome and the legal record was provided to the client on conclusion.
